24 hour care with independence in mind.
We take pride in our wonderful and passionate care team; whose core duty is to provide excellent care and to embrace standards and policies that are informed by current best practice. Our staff hold a genuine interest and passion in caring for our residents as their own parents or grandparents, and this is essential in achieving and maintaining the high standard that we set for ourselves.
Additional to our 24-hour nursing care we have in-house catering, housekeeping, laundry, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, chiropody and hairdressing, plus a wide range of indoor activities and outings, complemented by passionate volunteering pastoral work and daily mass. All food is freshly prepared and tailored to meet each resident’s preference and dietary needs as recommended by the medical team. Where medically indicated we can provide dietary advice, geriatrician services, dental care and a range of complementary therapies on-site.
Our care services are wide-ranging and suit the needs of many. We provide the following services:
At St Gabriels we offer security, privacy and, above all else, quality of life. We ensure that every resident has a healthy diet and the necessary medical attention. We encourage social interaction and participation so that residents have a sense of belonging and enjoy companionship day to day.
When someone comes to us, it is the start of a new chapter in their lives – the start of something rewarding, where they will be looked after 24 hours a day. Family and friends can visit as easily as before and they no longer need to be concerned about the health and safety of their loved ones after they leave.
Illness and/or surgery can be a significant set back to a person’s everyday life. They may be on the road to recovery, but need to recover at their own pace in a quiet environment where they can be cared for 24 hours a day.
Our convalescent care service provides residents with the opportunity to be cared for in a relaxed setting, rebuild their strength and prepare to resume normal life.
Individuals with Dementia
Our care team has an in-depth knowledge and expertise of this illness and there is a strong element of love and respect for these residents.
Caring at home for someone with dementia can be extremely challenging and we know that loving relationships can break down. St Gabriels helps to avoid such situations by caring for residents in an environment that improves quality of life while looking after a person’s safety and welfare. We don’t see dementia or Alzheimer’s as a destroyer of a person’s individuality. Rather, we believe it is a journey of emergence of our true and pure selves as human beings. Rules of behaviour become irrelevant as the norms expected from society become insignificant.
We look after residents on either a short or long term basis, depending on the family’s/carer’s needs.
Dignity, respect and love are the cornerstones of the service we offer at St Gabriels.
After an acute hospital has looked after the initial treatment of a patient, it is important that the patient finds the best environment in which to rebuild strength and improve at their own pace. St Gabriels offers such an environment with 24 hour care, more personal attention, trained medical staff and all the services required to help individuals get back to the best that they can be.
In a relaxed and quiet setting patients often discover they can improve more than they may have thought or have been told.
This is because now that the acute phase of recovery has finished, a patient can concentrate not just on the illness but on their general well-being, both mental and physical. Our goal is to give our residents the best opportunity to achieve this.
Respite care is as much about the carer as it is about the person being cared for. Caring for a loved one at home over a continuous period can be physically and mentally exhausting. It is often impossible to get away, which means looking after yourself can similarly be impossible. In order to care for a loved one effectively, however, you need to have your energy and passion fully charged.
We can accommodate individuals for short periods, allowing the carer to have the freedom to do other things, be it visit family, go on holiday or simply relax and recharge.
Such a break from caring is key to being able to carry on caring for your loved one for as long as you possibly can. While at St Gabriels, we ensure that our residents are taken care of 24 hours a day, with experienced medical staff always on hand to make them feel as comfortable as possible.
Younger Adults with a Disability
Living at home with a long term illness and/or disability can compromise an individual’s quality of life, and that of the carer helping them to care for themselves.
We provide both short and longer term care, ensuring that the appropriate supports are in place for our residents – from the necessary equipment to trained professionals who are available 24 hours a day.
St Gabriels also provides an environment where residents can develop talents and abilities that they never knew they had. This is because their energy will not just be taken up with trying to cope. This is very important as it enhances independence and well-being.
